The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has threatened to withdraw from the current Kenyan peace talks if the government of Mwai Kibaki does not agree to at least a power-sharing transitional government leading to early elections. The second phase of the negotiations, led by former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan, began on Tuesday when the focus turned to the fourth point of the already agreed framework and the issue of the disputed presidential elections."If there is no deal, we will pull out of these talks," ODM leader Raila Odinga said on Monday.
'If there is no deal, we will pull out of these talks'"We don't want to determine the outcome, but if there's no deal, then there's no point in continuing. We will give Kofi Annan all the support he needs to do it, but we cannot allow the stalemate and the instability to continue." On the eve of today's crucial talks, the 63-year-old opposition leader said his people and his party "would like a re-run of the presidential elections with-in three months from now, under a newly-constituted electoral commission, and using the same voter register".
